BRICK – An Elizabeth man, native to El Salvador and wanted for criminal activity, has been deported following his arrest by Brick Police.

Melvin Isaac Martinez-Guevara, 25, was pulled over by Brick Township Police on June 10 for a seatbelt violation. A records check found that Martinez-Guevara is a wanted man for involvement in a gang-related homicide back in El Salvador, according to officials.

Brick police later turned him over to Newark’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He was deported on August 24 and was received by authorities in his native country.

Police stated that Martinez-Guevara is allegedly a member of MS-13, or Mara Salvatrucha, a widely known gang.

“This individual, a known member of the murderous Mara Salvatrucha gang, entered the country illegally, already being wanted in his home country for criminal conspiracy,” said John Tsoukaris, field office director of ERO Newark. “The brave men and women of ICE have once again removed a dangerous criminal from the community.”

Martinez-Guevara reportedly entered the US illegally, however the date is uncertain.
