LAKEWOOD – Whatever was causing the itching, it wasn’t scabies.
A thorough investigation and follow-up testing revealed that no one at FountainView Care Center in Lakewood had or has scabies, a condition in which mites burrow into the skin and cause itching. They do not carry other disease.
A patient and three staff members were tested, and all came back with negative results.
The county and state health departments were alerted to possible scabies cases at the beginning of February. However, the facility was cleaned and some patients were separated as a precaution.
FountainView Care Center was established in 1995 and provides both short- and long-term residential care.
