BRICK – A pedestrian who allegedly ran out into traffic died after being hit by an oncoming car, police said.

On April 5 around 7 p.m., the Brick Township Police Department responded to a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Rt. 70 and Olden Street going towards the Brick Motor Inn Motel.

According to police, Kathleen Winits, 55, of Brick, was crossing Rt. 70 against the pedestrian crossing signal and not in the crosswalk. Jennifer Squires, 43, of Brick, was driving a 2020 White Mercedes C30 eastbound in the left lane of Rt. 70.

When Squires approached the intersection with a green light, she struck Winits and then came to a controlled stop. Police determined Winits deceased at the scene.

Witnesses told police that they saw Winits run out into traffic. At this time, the investigation is still on going.
