BRICK – Mayor Lisa Crate is inviting residents who want to help shape Brick Township’s future to apply for openings on several municipal boards, commissions and committees.

Residents interested in serving are asked to email a résumé and cover letter to the mayor’s office on or before December 23.

“Our boards play an important role in shaping Brick Township’s future and they offer residents a meaningful way to contribute to our community,” Crate said in a statement. “If you are interested in serving, please send your résumé to my office. Every submission will be reviewed, and we will make every effort to provide opportunities for all who wish to get involved.”

  Upcoming appointments are available on:

  • Architectural Review Board, which reviews construction, additions and exterior changes to nonresidential buildings when those changes are visible from public streets or other public areas.
  • Brick Municipal Alliance Committee (BMAC), which provides programs, services and education focused on substance abuse prevention and mental health.
  • Board of Adjustment, which hears and decides applications for variances from local zoning regulations.
  • Environmental Commission, which is charged with protecting, developing and overseeing the township’s natural resources, including its waterways.
  • Historic Preservation Commission, which promotes the preservation, restoration and appropriate use of historic structures in Brick Township.
  • Housing Authority, an autonomous body whose members are appointed by the mayor and council, and whose mission is to provide safe, decent and sanitary housing for low-income residents.
  • Shade Tree Commission, created in 1972, which advises on planting, removing and maintaining township trees and recommends policies to preserve and expand the township’s tree canopy.
  • Sustainable Brick, which advises the Township Council on environmentally and economically sound “green” initiatives to improve municipal operations.

“Anyone interested in serving should send their résumé and cover letter by December 23 to ensure they are considered,” Crate said.

Résumés and cover letters should be emailed to mayor@bricktownship.net no later than 5 p.m. on December 23.

Township officials noted that while they will try to match applicants with their preferred board, appointments will depend on vacancies and cannot be guaranteed.
