BRICK — Brick Township Mayor Lisa Crate acknowledged shortcomings in the township’s response to a recent snowstorm and said officials are reviewing procedures to improve how future winter weather events are handled.

In a statement released by her office, Crate said the storm created difficult conditions across the community and that many residents were frustrated by how long it took to fully clear roadways. She said the township’s response did not meet residents’ expectations.

“As mayor, I take responsibility for guiding the township through storms like this,” Crate said, adding that officials are evaluating both preparation and response efforts to identify needed improvements.

Crate noted that Department of Public Works crews worked extended hours, beginning Saturday evening, salting roads and continuing snow and ice removal throughout the storm and in the days afterward.

She also pointed to issues with the timing of private contractor deployment, which she said contributed to delays. Township officials are reviewing policies related to contractor engagement to ensure earlier deployment during future storms.

Crate said the township is committed to strengthening its snow response plan to better meet community expectations during severe winter weather.
