UPDATE: BRICK – A man who barricaded himself inside his Sprucewood Drive home has been taken into protective custody and transported to Ocean Medical Center for evaluation, Brick Township Police said.

Police created a perimeter around the home and shut down the area–which includes two schools, Warren H. Wolf Elementary School and Brick High School–after receiving reports the man was armed.

A home health aide went to the home before 9 a.m. this morning, where she found the man inside with a loaded “weapon.” She was able to leave the home without incident. No threats were made against her or anyone else, police said.

Police made contact with the man around 10:45 a.m. and were able to take him into custody. No one was injured. The man was home alone.

No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
