BEACHWOOD – A candidate who mounted a write-in campaign for mayor failed to garner enough votes in the primary election.

Glen Kelly had not officially challenged Mayor Ron Roma, meaning that his name wasn’t on the ballot. Kelly had asked people to write in his name for the Republican nomination to run in November.

Roma received 450 votes. There were 42 write-in votes. It is unknown at this time if they were all for Kelly.

Roma’s running mates also won. Gerald LaCrosse won 453 votes and Edward Zakar won 435 votes. There were 50 write-in votes for the council positions. Kelly is running with Todd Dexter and Sheila Burke-Jaccoud.

Ron Roma has been mayor for eight years, and was a councilman for eight years before that.
