BERKELEY — A pickup truck slammed into a home on Jamaica Boulevard after the driver suffered an apparent medical emergency, police said.
Berkeley Township officers were called around 2:55 p.m. to the area of Jamaica Boulevard and St. Catherine Boulevard, where they found a 2014 Dodge Ram that had continued through the intersection before hitting a parked 1969 Volkswagen Beetle. The truck then barreled through the home’s garage, damaging a hot water heater, and came to rest inside the living room, according to police.
The impact triggered a natural gas leak and left the driver trapped inside the vehicle.
Firefighters from Manitou Park and Pinewald Pioneer fire departments freed the driver. New Jersey Natural Gas and JCP&L crews also responded to secure utilities and ensure nearby homes remained safe.
No one inside the residence was hurt.
Authorities believe the driver suffered a serious medical episode prior to the crash. He was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center for treatment.
Jamaica Boulevard was closed for about 90 minutes while first responders stabilized the structure and investigators documented the scene. Once the home was deemed safe, Jersey Shore Towing removed the vehicle.
Exit 80 Scanner News was first to report the incident.
