Suspected Youth Leader Sentenced For Owning Child Pornography

BEACHWOOD – A man who was believed to be a youth leader at a local church was sentenced in relation to his possession of child pornography.

Anthony J. Mauro, 45, of Compass Avenue in Beachwood was sentenced to 180 days in jail and parole supervision for life, according to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

After a month-long investigation, detectives from the High Tech Crime Unit executed a search warrant at 537 Compass Ave. earlier this year. There were more than 100 videos and images of child pornography located on the computers at the residence, police said. He pled guilty to two counts of Possession of Child Pornography.

At the time of his arrest, he was believed to be a youth team leader for Saint Barnabas church in Berkeley.

Senior Assistant Prosecutor Kristin Pressman prosecuted Mauro.  U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Beachwood Police Department provided assistance to Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office High Tech Unit in its investigation.
