BERKELEY — A two-car collision near Dudley Park briefly disrupted traffic Friday afternoon after one vehicle burst into smoke and both were left disabled in the roadway, police said.
Berkeley Township officers were called to the area of 1070 Route 9 on November 14 at about 2:17 p.m. When they arrived, they found a gray 2021 Kia sedan smoking from under the hood. The Bayville Volunteer Fire Department and Bayville First Aid Squad responded to assist and secure the scene.
According to police, the Kia had been traveling south on Route 9 with a 1998 green Honda sedan following behind it in the same lane. Investigators determined the Honda was following too closely and struck the rear of the Kia, causing significant damage to both vehicles.
One of the drivers reported pain but declined transport to the hospital, authorities said.
Because both cars were disabled, officers temporarily detoured traffic for about 30 minutes until the vehicles were removed by Midnite Towing. The crash remains under investigation.
