BERKELEY – A serial burglar was arrested once again for a forced-entry burglary of an Eton Road home July 18.

Robert Meloni, 52, of Berkeley, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit theft. Police arrested him at the Toms River Bus Terminal without inciden.

Police arrested Carol Thompson, 48, of Eton Road in Berkeley, after finding evidence linking him to the burglary. He was charged with burglary and theft. A search warrant of that residence led to items from the Eton Road burglary being recovered.

Both were lodged at Ocean County Jail.

Police found that Meloni had committed at least one burglary on Eton Road. A career criminal, Meloni has gone on burglary sprees throughout the region for the last eight years. He was released from state prison in November 2015 after serving time for more than 30 burglaries committed throughout Berkeley, Toms River and Brick townships. He was arrested for burglary one week after that release.

Police said he has continued to reside in this area, and is suspected in numerous other burglaries throughout the area. He’s a suspect in 11 outstanding 2018 township burglaries.

More arrests are expected.
