PINE BEACH — The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office has assumed full command of the Pine Beach Police Department, citing a lack of permanent leadership following the retirement of the borough’s police chief.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced Friday that, effective July 17, the Prosecutor’s Office has taken control of the department under his authority as Ocean County’s chief law enforcement officer.
According to Billhimer, the department has operated without a police chief since Keith Brown retired on Dec. 31, 2025. He said the absence of permanent leadership created the need for additional oversight to ensure the department continues to provide effective public safety services.
As part of the transition, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of Detectives Casey M. Long has been appointed officer-in-charge of the Pine Beach Police Department. Day-to-day operations will be overseen by Prosecutor’s Office Lt. John Carroll, along with other senior members of the agency.
Billhimer praised the officers of the Pine Beach Police Department and recognized Acting Lt. Ryan Morris for serving as officer-in-charge since Brown’s retirement.
The Prosecutor’s Office said it plans to conduct a comprehensive review of the department’s operations while implementing enhanced supervision, management and accountability measures. Officials also said they will work with the Borough of Pine Beach to establish a long-term command structure and update departmental policies and procedures.
The Prosecutor’s Office said the goal is to maintain public safety throughout the summer season and beyond while strengthening the department’s overall operations.
