BERKELEY – Authorities in Ocean County are probing a non-fatal police officer involved shooting in the township.

A news tip to Jersey Shore Online from a concerned resident said the incident happened on Stanford Drive on the morning of August 1st.

Upon hearing the tip, we reached out to Detective Lieutenant Peter La Rocca of the township police who referred our media inquiry to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office.

Shortly after, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer released a statement to the press. It said that their Major Crime Unit and Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit are currently investigating the incident which took place around 11:30 a.m.

Billhimer said no further information may be released at this time pursuant to New Jersey Attorney General Directive No. 2006-5; a public statement will be released upon completion of the investigation, with the approval of the Attorney General.

We will update this story as we get more details.
