BERKELEY – The traffic light and pedestrian crossing was installed at the intersection of Route 9 and Frederick Drive, but has not yet been finished.

A New Jersey Department of Transportation spokesman said that they are waiting for the electricity to be connected by Jersey Central Power and Light. Once that’s completed, then the light will be tested for a few days before becoming fully operational.

That intersection has seen three fatalities – and multiple other crashes – since 1999. As a state road, the township had to petition the DOT to make changes, which they eventually did.
