BEACHWOOD – The Beachwood Volunteer Fire Department was awarded a $10,000 grant that will be used to purchase gear.
The grant was achieved through the State Farm Good Neighbor Firefighter Safety Program, now in its third year. Beachwood was one of 150 departments to receive the award. According to State Farm, volunteer fire departments provide crucial lifesaving services while often struggling with financial challenges.
For the small town’s fire department, the grant represents an important investment in the men and women who volunteer their time to protect their neighbors, Chief Roger Hull said. The department plans to use the funding to purchase firefighter gear, helping ensure its members have the equipment they need when responding to fires and other emergencies.
“Our firefighters give their time and energy to be there when our community needs them most,” Hull said. “When our firefighters answer an alarm, we want to know they have dependable gear that allows them to do their jobs as safely and effectively as possible. We are extremely grateful to State Farm and the National Volunteer Fire Council for recognizing that need and investing in the safety of our firefighters and the community we serve.”
The first 2,000 applicants received a one-year membership to the National Volunteer Fire Council, a nonprofit that represents the interests of volunteer fire and emergency medical services. They can be found at nvfc.org.
