BERKELEY – A single-vehicle car crash brought down high voltage wires and closed a township road for several hours.

Berkeley Township Police Chief Karin DiMichele told Jersey Shore Online the accident occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Pinewald Keswick Road near the Garden State Parkway. A Nissan Sentra had struck a utility pole on the south side of the road, causing some of the wires to ignite some surrounding trees.

The unidentified driver was taken to Community Medical Center with minor injuries.

Westbound traffic was being diverted while the pole was repaired. Power was restored in about an hour, DiMichele said.

The Pinewald-Pioneer Volunteer Fire Department and Bayville Fire Department responded to the scene to assist.

The crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Berkeley Township Traffic Safety Bureau at 732-341-1132, ext. 2125.
