After Crash Closes Road, Driver Charged With Drugs

  BERKELEY – A head-on crash closed a major road and caused one driver to be flown to the hospital.

  The crash took place on Feb. 29 on Double Trouble Road south of the Garden State Parkway entrance. Police said one driver had to be airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune. Two children in that vehicle were also injured and brought to the hospital via ambulance.

  The driver of the other vehicle refused medical attention and appeared to be under the influence. He was arrested and brought to police headquarters.

  Robert Chelston, 33, of Berkeley was charged with Possession of Cocaine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving and Possession of Drugs while Operating a Vehicle.

 The road was shut down for several hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
