MANAHAWKIN – A Barnegat man was charged after police allegedly found methamphetamine during a late-night property check at Manahawkin Lake Park, authorities said.
Stafford Township Patrolman Ryan Cahill was checking the park near Route 9 and North Lake Shore Drive at about 11:43 p.m. on September 10 when he noticed two people inside, police said.
While speaking with them, Cahill developed reason to believe drugs might be among their belongings or on their persons, authorities said. A search allegedly uncovered suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in one of the bags.
Dennis Roberts of Barnegat was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Roberts was processed at Stafford Township Police Headquarters and released on a summons pending a future court appearance.
Patrolmen O’Rourke and Okinsky assisted with the investigation.
Roberts is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
