JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST – Residents surrounding the military installation may hear the “Sounds of Freedom” throughout September as personnel conduct scheduled training exercises.
Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst anticipates moderate noise levels Sept. 1-4, 9-21, 23-27 and 29-30. Those exercises may include .50-caliber weapons, rocket fire, rotary cannons and aerial gunnery.
Lower noise levels are expected Sept. 5-8, 22 and 28. Those activities may involve small-arms fire, rifles and light crew-served weapons.
No high-noise training days are currently scheduled during the month.
Officials cautioned that noise may not be continuous and weather conditions, including cloud cover, can affect how far sound travels. Training requirements and weather could also prompt changes to the schedule without notice.
