JACKSON – A Brick Township man was killed and four others were injured in a wrong-way crash that closed part of Interstate 195 Wednesday night, authorities said.
The crash occurred Aug. 26 in the eastbound lanes near Exit 22 and Jackson Mills Road.
According to a preliminary investigation, William H. Wright, 73, was driving a Ford SUV west in the highway’s eastbound lanes when it collided with another Ford SUV and a Toyota.
Both Ford SUVs overturned following the collision. Wright suffered fatal injuries, while four people from the other vehicles were taken to area hospitals with injuries described as minor.
The eastbound side of the interstate was closed as police, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other responders worked at the scene. Initial reports indicated that at least one person was trapped in a vehicle.
Authorities are investigating how Wright entered the highway traveling in the wrong direction.
