TOMS RIVER – Firefighters rescued a dog from a George Road home after a structure fire broke out Wednesday night, officials said.
The East Dover Fire Company was dispatched to the residence at about 8:58 p.m. on July 1 after a report of a structure fire. Arriving crews found an active fire and began suppression efforts.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control quickly. No one was home when the fire started, and no injuries were reported among residents or emergency responders, officials said.
A dog was removed from the home by firefighters and taken to a local veterinary hospital. According to social media posts, the dog passed away shortly after.
The Toms River Building Department responded and deemed the home unsafe for occupancy.
The fire remains under investigation by the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention. Preliminary findings indicate the cause appears to be accidental, officials said.
