MONMOUTH COUNTY — New Jersey State Police are asking for the public’s help as investigators continue to examine a fatal motor vehicle crash that shut down portions of the Garden State Parkway in Middletown Township.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:34 p.m. December 28 in the southbound express lanes near milepost 110.8, authorities said. According to a preliminary investigation, a black Toyota 4Runner was traveling south when it veered off the roadway to the left, struck a guide rail and overturned, coming to rest in the northbound express lanes.

The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved, police said.

Troopers from State Police Troop D responded and temporarily closed lanes in both directions while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene.

Investigators are now seeking witnesses who may have seen the crash or observed the vehicle prior to the incident. Police are also asking motorists who were traveling through the area at the time to review dash camera footage that could assist in determining the cause of the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the State Police Troop D Holmdel Station Detective Bureau. Tips may be submitted anonymously.
