TOMS RIVER – Police and fire personnel responded to a fire last week after reports of a van and house engulfed in flames.

On August 15 at approximately 8:40 p.m., authorities responded to Chadwick Avenue for a report of a vehicle and structure fire. Once on the scene, police observed a Ford Econoline Van, parked and unoccupied in front of the garage, engulfed in flames.

According to John Novak, Fire Inspector for the Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention, the fire extended from the van to the outside wall of the garage with some extension into the attic.
“Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in the van and in the garage within a few minutes of arrival,” said Novak.

The van was totally destroyed during the incident and the garage sustained some water damage and was deemed unsafe. No injuries were reported.

The residents of the home were later able to return to the main house.

Officials deemed the van fire not suspicious, however the cause is still undetermined, Novak added.
