TINTON FALLS – A fatal crash Saturday night involved a Toms River man driving off the Garden State Parkway into a nearby town, hitting a car and killing two people, officials said.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office stated that the 33-year-old Toms River man was driving a truck north on the Parkway when it drove off the road at about mile marker 103. The truck then drove over grass, reaching Asbury Avenue in Tinton Falls and hit another car driven by a 40-year-old man from Baltimore, Maryland.

The 40-year-old man and his passenger, a 35-year-old woman, died at the scene from multiple injuries, officials said.

The Toms River man was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he consented to have blood drawn for toxicology testing and turned over his cell phone to investigators, officials said.

The identities of the two people who died have been withheld pending confirmation. At this time the crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Serious Crash Analysis Response Team (SCART). Anyone with information is urged to contact Prosecutor’s Office Detective Kristian DeVito at 1-800-533-7443.
