TOMS RIVER – A woman recently avoided a car accident just to collide head-on with a traffic signal, according to police.

On Dec. 14, at approximately 1:25 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Lakehurst Road and Williamsburg Drive for reports of a motor vehicle accident.

Jillian Messina of the Toms River Police Department told Jersey Shore Online that 35-year old Kathleen Tuorto of Pine Beach was traveling southbound on Lakehurst Road when she swerved to the right to avoid rear-ending another vehicle which was making a right turn onto Williamsburg Drive.

Tuorto swerved, driving over the curb and striking a traffic signal. The traffic signal fell on top of the other vehicle, driven by 74-year old Louise Pavano of Whiting.

No injuries were reported. Police continue to investigate the crash.
