LAKEWOOD — A Toms River man pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a 2024 shooting that wounded a man in both arms, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced.
Million Brown-Bey, 49, entered the pleas before Superior Court Judge Kimarie Rahill to aggravated assault and possession of a weapon by a person prohibited from having one.
Prosecutors will seek two concurrent 10-year prison terms when Brown-Bey is sentenced Dec. 18. The proposed aggravated assault sentence would fall under the No Early Release Act, while the weapons sentence would include five years without parole eligibility.
The shooting investigation began Jan. 7, 2024, when Lakewood police received a report of gunfire near the West Gate Shopping Complex. Shortly afterward, a 27-year-old man arrived at Hackensack Meridian Health Ocean Medical Center in Brick with gunshot injuries to both arms. He was treated and released.
Investigators determined the victim had driven to a Hillside Avenue residence when someone approached his vehicle and fired at least one shot, injuring both arms. The victim drove himself to the hospital, authorities said.
Detectives identified Brown-Bey as the shooter and arrested him Jan. 11, 2024. He has remained in the Ocean County Jail since his arrest. He was indicted in June 2024.
Supervising Assistant Prosecutors Christopher Heisler and Kaitlyn Burke are prosecuting the case. Billhimer credited county investigators, Lakewood police and assisting agencies from South Toms River, Lakehurst and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.
