LAKEWOOD — A Toms River man has been arrested after a police investigation into an alleged eluding incident that took place earlier this month in Lakewood.
According to the Lakewood Police Department, detectives identified 21-year-old Nicholas Ratajczak as the driver involved in the May 4 incident after developing information during the investigation. Officers later located both Ratajczak and the vehicle believed to have been connected to the case.
Police said Ratajczak was taken into custody and charged with eluding, in addition to several motor vehicle offenses. He was later released pending a future court appearance.
Authorities also identified a second individual, Bronson Sandford, during the investigation. Police said Sandford was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses tied to the incident.
Lakewood Police Chief Gregory H. Meyer praised the work of investigators and officers involved in the case, along with assistance from the Toms River Police Department.
“This investigation is another example of the dedication and persistence of our officers in holding reckless drivers accountable and keeping our roadways safe,” Meyer said.
The investigation was led by the Lakewood Police Department Traffic Unit with support from the Toms River Police Department.
Police said the investigation remains active.
Authorities emphasized that the charges are accusations and that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
