Texting While Driving To Blame In Bridge Crash

  TOMS RIVER – A motor vehicle crash on the Mathis Bridge was allegedly caused by texting and careless driving.

  Police responded to a call about a motor vehicle accident the Mathis Bridge on February 2 around 11 a.m. Jillian Messina from the Toms River Police Department told Jersey Shore Online that Alecia Perreault, 29 of Seaside Heights, was driving east on the Mathis Bridge in the center lane when she crashed into the vehicle in front of her. The vehicle she hit was stopped for a red traffic signal on the bridge.

  Police confirmed that both parties did not want medical treatment on the scene. Perreault was cited with Careless Driving and Texting While Driving.

  The accident is under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Robert Westfall.
