Teen Wounded In Shooting At Ocean County Mall

TOMS RIVER — A 17-year-old was wounded in a shooting Wednesday night at the Ocean County Mall, according to preliminary information confirmed by local authorities and scanner reports.

Toms River Police Sgt. Brian O’Leary told Jersey Shore Online reporter Stephanie Faughnan that there was a shooting and that the victim was in stable condition. He said no additional details were immediately available. Faughnan was covering tonight’s Toms River Council meeting when the incident happened and was able to make the confirmation of the incident.

Reports of the shooting began surfacing shortly after 8 p.m. on March 25. According to online chatter, the shooting happened near the Applebee’s at the mall on Hooper Avenue.

Multiple scanner pages including Exit 82 Scanner News, Tri-County Scanner News, Jersey Shore Scanner News and Garden State News Network reported the incident

Early scanner traffic identified the victim as a 17-year-old boy who was being taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

Scanner reports described the suspect as a Black male wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and black Nike Air Force sneakers. The person was reported to have fled in either a black or gray sedan.

Authorities had not released further information. The investigation remains ongoing.
