TOMS RIVER – Six years ago, The Greater Toms River Chamber of Commerce hosted the First SUP the River- A Stand Up Paddle Board Race down the Toms River, in an effort to celebrate a great natural resource, community engagement and promote members of the business community while raising money for scholarships.
Fast forward to 2021, and this community event is now hosted by the Ocean County College Foundation and the Greater Toms River Kiwanis Club. “This event, held during ‘local-summer’ is a great way to come together, be physically active, in a beautiful, safe, outdoor setting, all while raising much needed funds for community impact organizations,” said Nicole Arden, President of the Greater Toms River Kiwanis Club and Licensed Loan Officer at Glenn Denning Mortgage Corporation, the event’s major sponsor.
The race will be held Saturday, September 18, from 9 a.m. to noon.
In addition to the community support, the event is generously hosted at the Toms River Yacht Club with an additional spectator option on the River Lady, the morning of the race.
“We can’t think of a better way to celebrate one of our great natural resources here on the New Jersey shore; one of the greatest sailing rivers in NJ, and come together as a community in a time when we need it the most,” said Kenneth Malagiere, Executive Director of the Ocean County College Foundation.
