TOMS RIVER – Motorists should expect delays on the Mathis Bridge today as the NJ Department of Transportation continues testing today.

An alert from the Toms River Office of Emergency Management today stated: “The Mathis Bridge will be undergoing testing throughout the day today. Please plan on minor traffic delays in the area.”

According to Stephen Schapiro of the NJDOT, this work is a continuation of the testing that was performed a few weeks ago.

“However the work no longer requires closing the bridge at night…Route 37 eastbound/Mathis Bridge will have a single right lane closure today between 7 am and 3:30 p.m. from Gary Street to Sunset Drive. Two lanes will be maintained,” Schapiro added.

Beginning on Sept. 23, Route 37 eastbound was closed overnight for roughly two weeks while the NJDOT conducted final testing of the lift span components.
