Man Driving U-Haul With People Inside Charged

TOMS RIVER – After police pulled over a U-Haul truck and found four adults and two juveniles in the back, the driver has now been charged with child endangerment and false imprisonment.

Police received a distress call on February 28 from one of the people inside the U-Haul truck and later stopped the vehicle around mile marker 84.9 in the northbound lanes on the Garden State Parkway.

New Jersey State Police Trooper Alejandro Goez said the juveniles and adults were not being kidnapped despite the many rumors stated online. Goez confirmed that to Jersey Shore Online in an email.

The driver, John F. Williams, 46, from Kingston, New York, was charged with two counts of child endangering and one count of false imprisonment. Williams is currently lodged in the Ocean County Jail.

Further details are to be determined as the incident is still under investigation, according to Goez.

Jersey Shore Online will update this story as new details become available.
