  LAVALLETTE – Borough residents are mourning the loss of retired Lavallette Police Sergeant and Borough Councilman Robert P. “Bob” Lamb who died on May 2 at the age of 66.

  Lamb will be remembered as someone who lived to serve and defend his community and uplift others.

  “Bob dedicated his entire adult life to the people of Lavallette, serving with distinction as a police officer for 26 years, before serving on the borough council for over 20 years. Bob was also a life-long member of the Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company (Station 69),” the Borough’s website noted.

  A former decorated police officer, councilman and father of Toms River Township Councilman Justin D. Lamb, his obituary noted that he was a graduate of the Lavallette Elementary School and a member of the Point Pleasant Beach High School class of 1972.

  He was a decorated police officer, firefighter, public servant and a third-generation resident of Lavallette. Lamb was a founding member of the Lavallette Policemen’s Benevolent Association Local #372. He also served for more than a half century as a firefighter with the Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company. The fire company was founded in 1912 by his grandfather Peter Eagle.

  Before he retired as a police officer, he commuted to Connecticut for law school while working midnight shifts. After he retired, he practiced law and remained serving the borough as a member of council for over 20 years.

  Lamb who was elected to council in 2005 was serving as the chairman of the Public Works committee, and also served on Beach Operations and Utilities. He was the liaison to the ordinance committee and the memorials committee. His term of office was to have expired at the end of this year.

  He was a devoted father and friend to all he met. His father was James D. Lamb, and his mother Mildred Lamb, nee Eagle.

  Lamb is survived by his wife Karen of over 35 years and four children, Justin D. Lamb and his wife Ashley, Zachary Lamb and his wife Brianna, Victoria Chester and her husband Mathew, Jillian Lamb and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Barry and Alan, and a wide circle of relatives, friends, and fellow first responders.

  Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on May 10 at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 706 Grand Central Avenue, Lavallette.  A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to the Lavallette Volunteer Fire Company, Station 69 at 125 Washington Avenue (PO Box 267), Lavallette NJ 08735, calling 732-793-6900 or visiting the fire company’s web site, lavallette.org/organizations/fire.htmland.
