Garbage Truck Fire Causes Brief Evacuation In Neighborhood

  TOMS RIVER – Township residents were temporarily evacuated in the area of a vehicle fire that occurred on December 3 in the area of Dillon Lane in Lake Ridge.

  Multiple police units responded around 1:20 p.m. responded to a report of a waste management garbage truck on fire.

  Members of the Toms River Fire Company arrived on the scene and doused the fire. Residents of that neighborhood were permitted to return to their homes once the area was deemed safe by the fire company.

  The driver of the vehicle said he witnessed flames coming out of the rear of the vehicle after he had been driving on his route as normal.

  The man stated he immediately exited the truck and it quickly became engulfed in flames and smoke. There were no injuries to the driver or emergency personnel reported during the incident.

  Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention Officer Kevin Esposito is currently leading the investigation of the cause of the incident.
