TOMS RIVER — A Monday morning structure fire in Toms River drew a second alarm response, injured at least one person and left a building heavily damaged and unsafe to occupy, officials said.
Fire companies from Toms River stations 25 and 26, along with East Dover Fire Company Station 28, were dispatched shortly before 11 a.m. on April 13 to a reported structure fire, according to fire officials. First-arriving crews encountered active flames and upgraded the call, summoning additional firefighters and equipment to the scene.
Firefighters launched an aggressive attack and brought the blaze under control in what officials described as a timely manner. Even so, the structure sustained significant damage. The Toms River Building Department later posted the property as unsafe for occupancy.
Authorities said injuries were reported in connection with the fire, though no additional information on the number of people hurt or the extent of those injuries was immediately released.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Monday.
The Toms River Bureau of Fire Prevention is leading the investigation. Inspectors Britton and Kappock are handling the case in coordination with the Toms River Police Department, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office.
In a statement, Chief Inspector and Fire Official Matthew Janora thanked the responding fire companies and assisting agencies for their coordinated response and professionalism at the scene.
