TOMS RIVER – A driver fell asleep while driving on Route 9, causing him to hit a pole near Clayton Avenue, police said.

Anthony J. Huth, 29, of Barnegat, was driving a Dodge F150 north at around 5:15 a.m. on November 5. He told police he fell asleep, and that’s why his truck drifted off the roadway.

Toms River Police told Jersey Shore Online that he had only minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene. He was issued summonses for careless driving and having an unregistered trailer, police said. Route 9 was closed temporarily between Clayton Avenue and West Whitty Road.
