TOMS RIVER – Police are asking the public’s help in identifying a woman who allegedly stole money from a purse she found in Target, while shopping with a child.

The incident happened at about 9 a.m. on April 28, police said. A woman loaded her purchases into her car, but accidentally left her purse in her shopping cart. When she came back to the store, the purse was gone.

Toms River Officer Lawrence DiFabio watched video surveillance of the Target parking lot. He saw a woman remove the purse from the shopping cart, and then enter the store. While walking through the store, she allegedly removed about $40 and then hid the purse inside a shoe box in the store.

Anyone who can identify the woman, who might be driving a newer, four-door blue car, should contact DiFabio at 732-349-0150 ext. 1385 or by email Ldifabio@trpolice.org. All information will remain confidential.
