OCEAN COUNTY — A Mays Landing woman has pleaded guilty to theft and obstruction of justice in connection with a scheme to steal funds from a senior living community in Waretown and later attempting to delay court proceedings using forged medical documents, authorities said.
First Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Michael T. Nolan Jr. announced that Alicia Campbell, 37, entered her guilty plea on June 27 before Superior Court Judge Kenneth T. Palmer. At sentencing on Sept. 5, prosecutors will seek a six-year term in New Jersey State Prison for theft and an 18-month concurrent sentence for obstruction. Campbell will also be required to pay approximately $147,000 in restitution to the Greenbriar Oceanaire Community & Golf Course.
An investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Economic Crime Squad and Ocean Township Police Department revealed that, between January 2019 and January 2022, Campbell exploited her role as Lifestyle Director of the Greenbriar Oceanaire community by using association funds to purchase personal items and by transferring funds through Venmo to third parties who funneled the money back to her.
She was initially charged in March 2023 and indicted in January 2024 on multiple financial crimes. In the months that followed, Campbell repeatedly requested court adjournments, claiming her child was receiving leukemia treatment in Philadelphia and later in Texas. She provided documents purportedly from doctors at Texas Children’s Hospital to support her claims.
Investigators grew suspicious when the submitted documents contained incorrect hospital information. Further investigation revealed that the documents were forged and that Campbell’s child was never treated at the facility.
Campbell was subsequently charged in October 2024 with additional offenses, including tampering with public records, impersonation, and making false statements. She was arrested at her Mays Landing home and later released under New Jersey’s bail reform laws.
