BARNEGAT LIGHT – After being stranded in a sandbar, a kite surfer was rescued by the Coast Guard about one mile from Barnegat Light Thursday morning.

Officials said a good Samaritan contacted watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay after discovering a person was stranded on a sand bar waving for assistance. The person in distress was reported to be directly across from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light near Sledge Island.

Boat crews quickly responded, navigated through shallow water and rescued the person, bringing him back to the station.

After the man became tangled with another kite surfer, he released his kite and swam to the side of the channel. As a result, he became stranded.

Officials reported that both kite surfers were not injured.
