LACEY – The Ocean County Sheriff’s Office is warning motorists to avoid the Garden State Parkway at mile marker 72.2 this afternoon.
A Southern Regional School District bus caught fire while on the Parkway.
Sgt. Lawrence Peele of the New Jersey State Police said the driver started experiencing mechanical trouble while driving southbound. She pulled to the shoulder, and the front end erupted in flames. There were no passengers on board the bus at that time, and she escaped uninjured.
State Police received the call around 1:34 p.m.
The Nixle alert went out at 1:48 p.m. telling motorists there is a vehicle fire in that area. As of 2:30 p.m., the NJSP said all lanes were open.
