WARETOWN — Firefighters from Waretown and Forked River quickly knocked down a structure fire Thursday afternoon in Ocean Township, limiting damage and preventing injuries.
Crews were dispatched shortly before 1:00 p.m. on January 22 to a reported fire along Dock Avenue. Officers from the Ocean Township Police Department arrived first and confirmed an active blaze, prompting an upgrade to a first-alarm assignment that summoned additional mutual aid.
Engine companies from the Waretown Fire Department and the Forked River Fire Department initiated an aggressive interior attack upon arrival. Firefighters were able to bring the flames under control within approximately 10 minutes. The Barnegat Fire Department assisted with ventilation and overhaul operations.
Units remained on scene for about three hours to ensure hot spots were extinguished and to support follow-up operations. The incident was then turned over to the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office for a cause-and-origin investigation, with assistance from police.
No injuries were reported. Fire officials credited the swift response and coordinated effort among agencies for the rapid containment.
In a statement, Waretown fire officials thanked their partners, including Northeast Metro Ambulance, the Ocean County Fire Coordinators, the Ocean County EMS Coordinators, and the Ocean County Fire Desk Dispatchers, for their support during the incident.
