LITTLE EGG HARBOR – A police officer was attacked by a pit bull during an incident that occurred over the weekend in Little Egg Harbor.
On August 2, Little Egg Harbor Twp. Police responded to a residence in the Mystic Islands section of town for reports of an active disturbance. The residence is well-known to police.
Once on the scene, a pit bull ran out of the house and attacked an officer outside. According to police, the dog released the officer and lunged for another, resulting in the discharge of a firearm.
The officer was transported to Southern Ocean County Hospital where he was treated for a puncture wound and released.
The dog was not injured during this incident. It is now being held at the Ocean County Animal Shelter.
