BARNEGAT – A 34-year-old township resident will remain detained pending trial after allegedly murdering his mother and father, officials said.
Michael Mulgrew was apprehended on November 2 and was charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the stabbing deaths of 71-year-old Eugene Mulgrew and 69-year-old Cheryl Mulgrew.
According to authorities, officers were called to a home on Lincoln Avenue on November 2 to assist medical personnel with performing a mobile outreach at the residence. As the officers approached the home, they observed a man walking away.
Officers noticed blood on the front door of the house and in other areas of the home. Inside a bedroom, they found the bodies of Eugene and Cheryl Mulgrew who had been stabbed in the torso. Police also found a knife near the bedroom.
Mulgrew has been lodged in the Ocean County Jail since his apprehension.
The charges referenced are merely accusations and the public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
