BARNEGAT — Township police and school officials are reassuring families that there is no threat to student safety following renewed concerns circulating on social media about local schools.

According to officials, administrators at Russell O. Brackman Middle School were alerted on January 9 to an inappropriate verbal comment that was allegedly made by one student to another. Police were notified immediately and launched an investigation in coordination with school administrators.

Authorities said the investigation was thorough and determined that the comment did not pose an actual threat to students or staff.

In recent days, social media posts referencing the original incident have resurfaced, prompting renewed concern among some parents and community members. Police said they are continuing to work closely with district officials and emphasized that there is no current safety issue within Barnegat schools.

Officials urged residents to report any new or credible information directly to Barnegat police and cautioned against sharing unverified claims online, noting that misinformation can contribute to unnecessary fear.

School and police officials thanked district staff, public safety partners and parents for their cooperation and support, stressing that maintaining school safety remains a shared priority.
