LITTLE EGG HARBOR – A 40-year-old resident shot himself after police were called to his home during a disturbance call.

Little Egg Harbor Township Police said they were called to the home on Friday, October 4 around 8 p.m. near Great Bay Boulevard.

When officers arrived on scene, they attempted to make contact with a subject who was still inside the residence. While officers were inside they heard one gun shot and maintained control of the area they had already secured.

Other officers set up a perimeter around the residence and evacuated neighbors.

It was later discovered that the resident of the home had died from a self inflicted gun shot wound.

The Tuckerton Borough Police Department, Ocean County Sheriff’s Department, Ocean County Swat Team, Ocean County Prosecuters Office, and Great Bay Regional Ambulance Service assisted during the incident.
