LONG BEACH TOWNSHIP — A Barnegat man has been charged following an alleged assault that left a woman seriously injured inside a hotel room in Long Beach Township, authorities said.
Police responded February 23 to a report of an unwanted man at a township hotel. Upon arrival, officers found a 20-year-old woman who had reportedly been assaulted by a male inside his room. The woman sustained significant injuries and was treated at the scene by responding officers and members of the Beach Haven First Aid Squad.
An investigation by patrol officers, assisted by the department’s K-9 Unit, led to the identification of Corey Mullin, 25, of Barnegat, as the suspect. Mullin was taken into custody without incident.
He was charged with aggravated assault and criminal restraint.
Police later executed a court-approved search warrant at the hotel room with assistance from the Long Beach Township Detective Bureau. Authorities said the search resulted in additional charges against Mullin, including possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of methamphetamine, possession of psilocybin mushrooms, possession of ketamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Mullin was processed and lodged at the Ocean County Jail, where he remains pending a detention hearing.
Police credited the coordinated efforts of patrol officers, the K-9 Unit, the Detective Bureau and the Beach Haven First Aid Squad for the suspect’s arrest and the immediate care provided to the victim.
The charges are accusations, and Mullin is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
