STAFFORD — A Manahawkin resident is facing drug charges after police say narcotics were discovered during a late-night traffic stop in the town.
According to the Stafford Township Police Department, Patrolman Ryan Cahill stopped a vehicle around 11:45 p.m. February 28 near Barnacle Drive in Manahawkin. The driver was identified as 45-year-old Eugene Samuels.
During the investigation, Cahill developed reasonable suspicion that controlled dangerous substances might be inside the vehicle or on the driver. Police requested assistance from Detective Zach Wiatrowski and his narcotics detection dog, Venus.
Authorities said the K-9 conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics.
A subsequent search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered methamphetamine, testosterone and drug paraphernalia, police said.
Samuels was charged with third-degree possession of methamphetamine, possession of testosterone and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, which are disorderly persons offenses.
Following processing at Stafford Township Police Headquarters, Samuels was released on a complaint summons and is scheduled to appear for a detention hearing in Ocean County Superior Court.
