STAFFORD — A man wanted on multiple outstanding warrants was taken into custody after police say he was found with methamphetamine during a surveillance operation in Stafford Township.

According to the Stafford Township Police Department, officers assigned to the department’s Drug Enforcement Unit were conducting surveillance around 6:30 p.m. on January 14, at the Walmart shopping area in Manahawkin when they spotted a man they recognized from prior encounters.

Police identified the individual as 48-year-old Kevin A. Gallagher of Atlantic City. Authorities determined Gallagher was wanted on seven active warrants issued by multiple jurisdictions.

Gallagher was arrested based on the outstanding warrants, police said. During a search conducted incident to the arrest, investigators reported recovering a quantity of methamphetamine along with items classified as drug paraphernalia.

As a result of the investigation, Gallagher was charged with third-degree possession of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to properly dispose of a controlled dangerous substance, all under New Jersey criminal statutes.

Following processing at police headquarters, Gallagher was transported to the Ocean County Jail, where he remains held pending a detention hearing before the Ocean County Superior Court.
