STAFFORD — A Manahawkin man was arrested after police say he attempted to break into vehicles in the parking lot of Southern Regional High School and fled from officers.

Stafford Township police responded to the school area around noon December 13, following reports of a suspicious man trying to enter parked vehicles. Witnesses provided a description and said the suspect was last seen heading toward Route 9.

Officers canvassed the area and soon spotted a man matching the description near Route 9 and Hilliard Boulevard, police said. When officers attempted to approach him, the suspect ran into a wooded area, leading to a brief foot chase before he was taken into custody.

Police identified the suspect as Bradley Stanley, 39, of East Bay Avenue in Manahawkin.

A subsequent investigation by the department’s Detective Bureau found Stanley in possession of burglary tools, stolen items and a stun gun, according to police. Detectives were able to identify several victims and return the recovered property.

Stanley was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree fraudulent use of a credit card, fourth-degree credit card theft, fourth-degree prohibited weapons and devices, fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, fourth-degree certain persons not to have weapons, fourth-degree resisting arrest, five counts of disorderly persons possession of burglar’s tools and seven counts of disorderly persons theft by unlawful taking.

He was processed at police headquarters and lodged in the Ocean County Jail on a criminal complaint warrant pending an appearance in Ocean County Superior Court.

Patrolman Theodore Caporrino made the arrest with assistance from Detective Zac Halliday, Patrolman Nicholas Racanelli and school resource officer Albert Haldenwang, police said.
