Grenade In Church Donation Box, Just A Toy

WARETOWN – Patrol officers were dispatched to the area of The United Methodist Church for a report of a possible grenade. The incident happened Sunday morning.

The caller reported to the Ocean Township Police Department, discovering a grenade in the area of the church and subsequently placing it in the donation box because he thought it was a toy.

Police responded and began an evacuation of the area and started an investigation.

Joining the Ocean Township Police Department Criminal Investigations Division were members of the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and the New Jersey State Police Bomb Squad Unit.

The “grenade” in question was determined to be an actual toy and the area was deemed to be safe.
